Summer 2009 continues with the recent work of practicing S.A.W. artists – potters, painters, & jewelers alike. Please join us July 3rd for our next First Friday gallery crawl reception.

Potters, with their functional and beautiful work, crafted in Carbondale and fired on site. Treat yourself,
or any of those folks you know getting married this time of year. Nancy Barbour, Anne Goldberg, Steven Colby, Angus Graham, and Alex Watson have a combined total of decades of potting. The exquisite work they make displays an incredible local craftmanship – homegrown in Carbondale.
Colby June Jeweler also adds a craft to the gallery this month with handmade jewelery featuring naturally inspired forms and recycled metals.
SAW Painters represent a wide range of styles, and even materials used to paint. Kate Davenport, Alayne Tetor, Stanley Bell, and Andrea Korber will be showing work on surfaces that ranges from paper to board to canvas. The artsists share a root in drawing that threads through their recent work this summer.
We welcome you into to our studio once again this Friday – and invite all our community art supporting friends to join us and enjoy the work.
Group Show at S.A.W. (Studio for Arts + Works), 978 Euclid Ave. Opening reception Friday, July 3rd, 6pm-9pm. Show runs through July 31st.

At the opening of Colby June’s recent jewelery line, a percentage of sales was donated to local nonprofit Wilderness Workshop. The show was well attended and the SAW shop is happy for both Colby June and Wilderness Workshop.
May the love of wild places and hand made goods be a part of all our lives.

Colby’s new river rock inspired line uses recycled materials in the metals, and is all hand made by Colby, in her SAW studio space.
Colby’s show will be up for the month of May at the SAW gallery. 9-5, Monday through Friday at 978 Euclid Avenue in Carbondale.

Opening Night.
April events in the gallery at the SAW shop included “Before it was Pretty: the art of Architecture” and “Shake Your Model Maker” a live model-off competition. We had a ton of fun with the show and with the model competition, and we’re already psyched to do another design related event next year – stay tuned.

Bluegreen's landscape design installation was inspirational
“Before it Was Pretty,” the show in the gallery, celebrated the art of the design process, and was timed to correspond with Colorado Architecture Month.

We were lucky to count participation from 10 talented and diverse local firms, including: Blugreen, Land + Shelter, Greenline, Energy & Sustainable Design, Airmada Lighting Design, Hagman Architects, David Johnston Architects, Maggert Engineering, Rowland + Broughton, David Rasmussen, and Dana Ganssle. Thanks to the incredible installation efforts of these designers, the gallery was bursting with the messy vitality of design work, and people were drawn the joy of it.

“Shake Your Model Maker” was a fierce but fun model design competition that everyone enjoyed – spectator or participant.

Back to our roots with glueguns and pipe-cleaners – designers went to work with a one hour live model-off. It was chaos.

Designers enjoying their hard work... Peace Out Dana
